Southside Sewing School offer a select range of sewing courses from the inspirational surroundings of our workshop in the beautiful village of Fenwick in East Ayrshire - just off the M77. Class numbers are restricted as the school is committed to giving students the best possible learning experience and this is best achieved by giving in depth tuition on an individual basis in an environment where students support each other under the guidance of the class tutor. Each Course structure has been carefully assessed to cover the widest possible range of sewing processes to give the student confidence to tackle their own projects and a foundation from which to progress with what will undoubtedly, if not already, become a new found passion.
Our principal tutor is Annie Sharkey (aka Sewing Genie) who has a background in theatrical costume, starting out her career with The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in the Wardrobe Department and moving on to become the Wardrobe Mistress for Scottish Ballet. Annie qualified in Dress Design and Tailoring and Garment and Fashion Technology and has over 30 years sewing and design experience. Annie is committed to passing on these skills and sharing insider tips of the trade with students to enhance their sewing experience. The school also offers on-going support to students by holding periodical Walk in Workshops which incorporate our Sewing Surgery where additional course tutors are available to discuss any sewing related issues with guest speakers to offer insights and inspiration.
